Are You a Solo Worker or a Team Player?By Audrey Seymour Do you prefer to work alone or with a team? What ideas do you have about each of these approaches? I'm talking not only about your work itself, but also how you promote your business. Do idealizations or judgments about one or the other way of working keep you from satisfaction and success?I find that many people leave the corporate world due to burnout from the pressure of fitting a large company's agenda. From this perspective, the image of the heroic solo entrepreneur can be totally appealing. Yet, after striking out on their own many find that they miss the camaraderie of working with a team, as well as sharing the workload. Or, you may be an entrepreneur who doesn't know how to let your community help you grow your business. Having total creative control over your work may be perfect for you. But if not, consider the many ways to combine autonomy and collaboration, from business partnerships to simply sharing an office suite and fostering referral relationships. You may also find freedom within structure by joining a company that shares your long-term vision and values. You can learn a lot through trial and error, but a shortcut to your ideal business structure can be found through self-exploration while researching the options. The following article Entrepreneur Success Factors suggests an inquiry for exploring qualities that are needed by a successful entrepreneur. © 2005 Audrey Seymour. All rights reserved.
